For 2026 Topps Heritage Football, start with the rookie's card number and the checklist section. Fernando Mendoza's base card is 272; his Heritage Rookie Autograph is HRA-FM. Those are separate collecting targets in the official Topps checklist.
This guide helps you build a rookie want list before release, then compare the same version across listings. It belongs to our football cards hub. The Heritage release overview provides the product-level starting point.
Official sources checked October 10, 2026. Topps' checklist describes intended production contents and cautions that actual contents and odds may vary. The hero is original editorial artwork, rather than a picture of actual cards.
Release dates depend on the box format
The current Topps Heritage Football product page lists Hobby and Value boxes for October 21, 2026, and Mega boxes for November 4, 2026. The official release calendar also lists Heritage Football on October 21 and says dates can change.
Use the format-specific product page when planning around Mega. Do not apply the calendar's general October entry to every box. These are manufacturer schedule dates; check a seller's handling and expected shipment terms separately.
What the base checklist covers
Topps' collector guide published October 9 describes a 400-card base set inspired by the 1976 Topps Football design. It includes Record Breakers, League Leaders, Team Cards and championship-game subjects alongside individual players.
For a rookie collection, make a player-specific list rather than buying every card that shares the design. Decide whether you want a base rookie, a variation or an autograph before opening a search.
Rookie base numbers and autograph codes
These selected entries come directly from the official checklist. Each player below is marked Rookie in the base section.
| Player | Base card | Heritage Rookie Autograph |
|---|---|---|
| Drew Allar | 27 | HRA-DA |
| Jeremiyah Love | 133 | HRA-JL |
| Fernando Mendoza | 272 | HRA-FM |
| Ty Simpson | 288 | HRA-TS |
| Carnell Tate | 305 | HRA-CT |
| Jadarian Price | 393 | HRA-JP |
The autograph column identifies a checklist entry. It does not promise that player in a box or establish a parallel's print run.
Save the full code in your notes. When a seller uses only a player name and “rookie auto,” ask for photographs that establish which autograph family and version is being offered.
A matching card number does not settle the version
The same Topps PDF separates Base Cards Chrome Variation, No Name, Image, Legend, Flipped Helmet, Black and White Image, and Alternate Jersey variations.
For example, Mendoza appears as 272 in both Base Cards and Base Cards Chrome Variation. Compare the finish and checklist section as well as the number. Use our card identification guide to record the year, product, player, number and version.
Do not infer a variation from an unusual photograph alone. Match the official entry, request clear front and back images, and inspect any serial stamp on the actual card.
Keep autograph and relic families separate
Topps' October 9 collector guide highlights Heritage Rookie Autographs, Base Card Chrome Autograph Variation, Real One Autographs, Real One Rookie Autographs and Locker Room Autograph Relics. Its examples include Mendoza and Ty Simpson in Locker Room Autograph Relics.
Choose the family first, then research the parallel and condition. For a numbered listing, record the entire visible fraction. Do not borrow a serial limit or odds ratio from another autograph family.
Our odds-sheet guide explains how to distinguish a published rate from an explicit box guarantee. This article does not assign pack odds or box guarantees from the subject checklist.
