Topps has scheduled the 2026 Topps Chrome Football First Day Issue Dutch auction preorder for Friday, October 16 at noon ET, or 11 a.m. Central. This is the opening of an FDI preorder, not a confirmed delivery date or a release date for every Chrome Football format.

The official product preview and Topps release calendar agree on the event. Both were checked October 15, 2026; Topps warns that calendar dates can change.

This guide focuses on preparing for that purchase. For the wider football cluster, start at Football Card News & Releases. The reused blueprint hero illustrates generic football cards and finishes, not actual Chrome packaging or confirmed FDI parallels.

What the official 2026 preview confirms

Topps describes a product combining the 2026 draft class, established NFL players and legends. Its rookie preview names Fernando Mendoza, Jeremiyah Love and Carnell Tate, among others.

The product page also previews returning Helix cards, new Glass Canvas and Super Bowl at Night content, and NFL Honors Gold Shield Autographs. These are announced product features; the preview does not assign each one to a specific FDI box slot.

As checked October 15, that page does not link a final checklist or odds sheet, or state an FDI pack count, autograph guarantee, exclusive parallel numbering, auction starting price, floor price or shipping date. Do not fill those gaps with specifications from 2025 or another sport.

How the Dutch auction works

Topps' Dutch auction FAQ describes a descending-price sale. A posted opening price falls at specified intervals while the auction continues. The sale can end when inventory sells out, time expires or the floor is reached. The price steps and timing vary by product.

That means waiting for a lower price carries the possibility of missing the product. Set a maximum delivered cost before the auction opens, leaving room for any tax and shipping shown at checkout. The auction's opening price is not evidence of a box's resale value.

One checkout detail deserves attention: the FAQ says the price is set when the item enters your cart. A later price drop does not automatically reprice that cart, and adding a box does not secure it before checkout finishes.

Review the live listing and auction terms before participating. Topps says auction procedures can change, including for individual items. Treat the general FAQ as preparation and confirm the terms displayed for this particular sale.

A short worksheet for auction day

Record these fields from the actual FDI offer before deciding whether to order:

Field What to verify
Product identity 2026, Chrome Football and First Day Issue on the same offer
Quantity One box, a case or another stated unit
Configuration Pack and card counts for this exact SKU
Promised contents Exact autograph wording and any documented FDI exclusives
Auction rules Current price, next step, purchase limits and checkout conditions
Fulfillment Stated shipping window and total delivered cost

Save the product description and order confirmation. If the offer still leaves a feature unspecified, budget without assuming that feature is included. An insert pictured in a preview should not become a personal box expectation.

Keep eBay presales separate from Topps orders

A marketplace offer needs its own review. Ask whether the seller is offering an unopened FDI box, ordinary Hobby, loose packs, a break spot or a single. Confirm the product year from the full description and photographs rather than the listing's upload date.

For a presale, record the seller's stated shipment date and checkout delivery estimate. Use our eBay trading-card presale guide to check the applicable policy and order deadlines. A manufacturer preorder announcement alone does not verify a seller's inventory.

The searches below target sealed FDI research. Results may include older products or speculative offers; compare only listings that identify the same item and quantity. Our shop is a separate path to the publication's current eBay inventory, which may include other products.

Your next step

Open the official offer on auction day, complete the worksheet and compare its delivered cost with your collecting budget. If your goal is a particular rookie or autograph, waiting for documented singles is another research path; our card-price research guide explains how to match comparable cards.

Continue through the October 8–21 release guide or the related Heritage Football checklist and rookie guide, then return to Chrome Football when Topps supplies the missing FDI specifications.
