eBay Trading Card Presales: Shipping Rules and Buyer Checks
Check eBay's 40-business-day presale rule, seller ship dates, missing-order deadlines, and trading-card return windows before buying a preorder.

Before buying a trading-card presale on eBay, check the seller's shipping date and the delivery estimate at checkout. Under eBay's presale policy, the seller must guarantee shipment within 40 business days of purchase. That is a shipping limit, not a promise that the package will arrive within 40 calendar days.
This is a useful check ahead of the next football preorder: Topps' Midnight Football page currently lists October 12, 2026, at 1 p.m. ET for preorders. That manufacturer preorder opening does not establish an individual eBay seller's shipment date.
Official sources checked October 11, 2026. This guide uses eBay.com policies; international buyers should check the policy for their checkout site. eBay's Money Back Guarantee policy says the checkout site's buyer-protection rules apply. What an eBay presale listing must tell you
The official presale policy requires four things:
- A clear presale label in both the title and description.
- The date the item will be available to ship.
- Guaranteed shipment within 40 business days of purchase.
- Handling time that includes acquiring the item and handing it to the carrier.
Read the description as well as the title. If the ship date is missing or the handling terms conflict, ask the seller to clarify before paying. Save the listing and checkout details for your records.
Separate the dates before comparing offers
Use this worksheet for each listing:
| Date or term | What to record |
|---|---|
| Manufacturer preorder opening | When the manufacturer starts taking orders |
| Product release | The official date for the exact box format, when published |
| Seller's available-to-ship date | The date stated in the presale description |
| Checkout delivery estimate | The latest date in the range shown before payment |
For manufacturer schedules, consult the Topps release calendar, which warns that dates can change. For the current product research, start with our Midnight Football guide or Heritage Football rookie checklist guide.
Do not treat a release-calendar entry as evidence that a seller has a box in hand. Compare offers only after recording the exact year, product, format and quantity. Use our card identification guide when the offer is a single rather than a sealed box.
If the preorder does not arrive
Follow eBay's missing-item instructions: check the order's delivery information, then report nonreceipt once the estimated delivery date has passed. For an undelivered order, report it within 30 calendar days after the estimated delivery date. If the seller has not resolved the issue after 3 business days, you can ask eBay to step in; the escalation window runs to 21 business days from the original request.
Use the order's request flow and follow its deadlines. Keep seller messages with your order records, and do not assume a message promising a later shipment extends your reporting window.
Inspect delivered trading cards promptly
Missing delivery and receiving the wrong item are different issues. Under the Money Back Guarantee's trading-card rules, a not-as-described return must be requested within 3 calendar days after the applicable estimated or actual delivery date if the seller does not offer returns. If the seller offers returns, use that stated return window.
The same policy uses actual delivery when tracking shows an early arrival, and estimated delivery when tracking shows a late arrival or no tracking is available. Authenticity Guarantee orders have separate coverage terms. Check the applicable order rules immediately rather than assuming every purchase has a 30-day return window.
Photograph any mismatch and keep the packaging. For a raw single, our condition guide provides a practical inspection checklist.
Compare listings with a specific buying goal
Before choosing an offer:
- Confirm whether you are buying a sealed box, a single, a lot or a break spot.
- Match the exact format and quantity across listings.
- Record the ship date, delivery estimate, return terms and total checkout cost.
- Ask the seller about any unclear fulfillment terms.
- Decide whether you are comfortable waiting or would prefer to research offers after release.
