September's sports-card calendar is crowded with baseball, football, and basketball products, but several of the dates represent preorders rather than final release dates. Collectors planning purchases should separate the two before deciding where to spend.
Topps currently has four major preorder or release events scheduled across September 8 and 9, followed by Update Series and premium basketball products later in the month. The company also warns that calendar dates are subject to change.
September 8: three major preorders
Three sports-card products are scheduled to open for preorder on Tuesday, September 8:
- 2026 Topps Allen & Ginter Baseball: noon ET
- 2026 Bowman Football: 1 p.m. ET
- 2026 Topps Museum Collection Baseball: 2 p.m. ET
Allen & Ginter returns with a 300-card base set. As usual, it mixes MLB players with personalities and subjects from sports, culture, and other fields. Collectors who want a strictly baseball checklist should review the non-baseball content before buying; the variety is central to the brand rather than a side feature.
Bowman Football combines a 200-card NFL base set with a 200-card college prospect set. Its use of 1st Bowman cards for football prospects makes it one of the month's most consequential new formats.
Museum Collection Baseball occupies the premium end of the schedule. Topps says the release uses a 100-card base set and centers its chase content on on-card autographs, framed signatures, autograph books, game-used memorabilia, and jumbo relics. Buyers should approach it as a hit-focused premium product rather than a set-building release.
September 9: Bowman Chrome Baseball
2026 Bowman Chrome Baseball is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, at noon ET. The product pairs a 100-card MLB base set with a separate 100-card prospect set and introduces another group of international 1st Bowman subjects.
This is likely the week's central baseball release because Bowman Chrome prospect cards can establish an early hobby market for players who are still years away from MLB. Topps has already made Hobby and Mega checklists available, although the Mega format is expected later.
Later in September
Topps' current calendar lists several additional dates collectors should monitor:
- September 14: 2026 Topps Baseball Update Series preorder
- September 17: 2025-26 Topps Definitive Basketball
- September 24: 2025-26 Topps Pristine Basketball
The official Update Series page currently confirms the September 14 preorder but does not yet provide the full product breakdown on its landing page. That makes patience useful: collectors can wait for the checklist and configuration details before forming conclusions about rookie depth or value.
Definitive and Pristine give basketball collectors two premium Topps products on consecutive Thursdays. Their placement later in the month leaves room for dates and product information to change, so collectors should check the manufacturer calendar again closer to release.
How to use the calendar
Treat announced dates as planning markers, not guarantees. Before purchasing, confirm whether a date is a preorder, an online release, or the day boxes are expected in hobby shops. Those can be different events.
It also helps to set a budget across the month instead of evaluating every product separately. Three attractive preorders landing within two hours on September 8 can create pressure to make rushed decisions. Decide which collecting lane matters most—traditional baseball, prospecting, football, or premium hits—before the sale windows open.
The bottom line
The most important near-term dates are September 8 for the Allen & Ginter, Bowman Football, and Museum Collection preorders, and September 9 for Bowman Chrome Baseball. Update Series follows on September 14, with premium basketball releases currently scheduled for the second half of the month.
The schedule is busy enough that checklist research and budget discipline matter more than chasing every release. We will update coverage as manufacturers publish more details or adjust dates.
